| Title | Conflicts of Interest |
| Topics Description | This topic addresses the issue of Conflicts of Interest (COI). The scientific community has the responsibility and challenge of recognizing and properly monitoring potential COI’s. One typical example is how bias might affect the design of study to fit a desired outcome that is not in the best interest of participants, public trust and the advancement of science. Currently, we have laws, policies, and guidelines in place through universities, State and Federal Laws to curtail COI’s; however, they are not foolproof. This presentation addresses the full spectrum defining a COI, outlining reasons they exist, how to work with sponsors and the laws and policies that are in place to manage a COI i.e., “Disclosure form.” |
