Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSA) Program

Overview

Drawing from experience of the NIH Roadmap for Medical Research and extensive community input, the Clinical and Translational Science Awards (CTSAs) program creates a definable academic home for the discipline of clinical and translational science at institutions across the country.

This consortium includes 39 academic health centers (AHCs) located throughout the nation. When fully implemented by 2012, about 60 institutions will be linked together to energize the discipline of clinical and translational science. The CTSA consortium is funded by the National Center for Research Resources (NCRR), a part of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Working Together as a National CTSA Consortium A major goal of the CTSA initiative is to develop a national consortium of CTSA institutions that work together to transform the discipline of clinical and translational research across the country.

In October of 2008 the CTSA consortium adopted four Strategic Goals enhancing:

• National Clinical and Translational Research Capability
• The Training and Career Development of Clinical and Translational Scientists
• Consortium-Wide Collaborations
• The Health of our Communities and the Nation
