An intervention is a special type of study procedure in which the study investigator intentionally adds, removes, or replaces an agent, object, or process to/from a study participant or their normal routine. The intervention(s) play the role of a manipulated variable in the study design. Interventions may comprise more than one agent, object, or process (e.g., triple antibiotics for H. pylori treatment; radiation plus chemotherapy).
